The design intent of this unique project was to provide structural steel exoskeleton reinforcement to an existing occupied, 50-year-old, four-story office building and two-story laboratory to increase the building’s blast/impact resistance.
Project DETAILS
- The project involved selective demolition of brick, installation of structural anchor points, epoxy grout injection in perimeter CMU shear walls, and installation of new concrete footings.
- Additional tasks included enclosing perimeter corridors, rooftop penthouse demolition and enclosure, roofing repairs, and replacement of all building openings with blast-rated doors, curtain wall systems, and skylights.
- Interior spaces were also renovated while maintaining full building occupancy and functionality for over 800 occupants, an active laboratory, and two loading/receiving docks.
